Mobile giant Nokia has launched a beta software development kit
for creating applications to run on Nokia phones during the second day
of Nokia World in Stuttgart, Germany. Nokia also released a new
navigation API that will help developers incorporate navigation
features in their applications.
With these announcements, the company has made it possible for
developers to work on applications for the Symbian and Maemo operating
systems. The apps will be sold through Nokia’s Ovi Store, which dismally launched back in May (but runs more smoothly now).
Along similar lines, Samsung announced its own application store
for overseas markets this week. Apple, RIM, LG, and Palm all also have
their own application stores, with Apple being the clear market leader.
